Literature Festival

In week six of term two we had the Literature Festival. The Festival had many activities, events and other things to do. My favourite part of the Literature Festival was the poem in the pocket event. In this event you shared a poem that you previously chose with your buddies or buddy at lunch. I quite enjoyed this because I was very excited to share my poem. I also liked it because I enjoyed listening to my buddy’s poems and seeing what they chose. I learnt a lot of new interesting things about my buddies too, especially about their personalities.

As you may know, during the Literature Festival a guest author comes to the school for each year level. In Year Five the guest author was Mark Wilson. I enjoyed his presentation and I learnt many new things about lots of different topics. One interesting thing I learnt from his drawing presentation was a new technique. In this technique, you would draw a normal stick figure. Then, you would build up the stick figure by drawing another round of lines. Last, you add a bit more detail to it and shade it in to create a silhouette. I also found Mark Wilson’s other presentation  fascinating.

Who is your favourite author and why?

  2. Hi Laura,
Great post. The ‘poem in a pocket’ concept raised my curiosity – I will have to talk to you more about that. I also liked the description of the stick figure drawings. We must try drawing some characters like that together one weekend.
It sounded like a great literature festival.
Reading is one of my favourite things to do to unwind.
Which type of books do you think are my favourite to read?
    Andy (Laura’s mum)
