Print Ad

In intergrated in Year five we are doing a Year five Market. The money we raise from this Market goes towards the JMB Foundation. Recently, we started learning about advertising and now in our groups we have made our own ads. We have made two different types of ads. This is a print ad and the other type is called a TV ad. Print ads need to be eye-catching and colourful. TV ads can sometimes have a story in them. Another technique we learned for TV ads is camera angles. Our group is called Lux and our print ad is advertising three of our products.

What type of ad do you prefer and why?

Term 1 Reflection

This term has been very exciting. I have had several highlights, especially getting to know my new teacher and classmates. This term I went to training band tryouts. I loved learning about all the instruments and how to play them. I also got surprised when I found out that some instruments like the French horn suited me. I also really liked these last few weeks when we’ve been working on the year five market. I found it really enjoyable when we just thought about what products we could make and how we could set up our stall. I am looking forward to continuing this unit next term.

This term I have learnt so many new things. Like in maths I never new how to multiply or divide decimals, fractions and mixed fractions. Maths must of been my favourite subject this term because every time I’m pretty sure I learnt something new. I have also gotten a much better understanding of sizzling starts. I have loved learning about and being able to write narratives. I’ve also used lots of positive learner attributes too. I have had to adapt, be resilient, be curious and persevere in many situations. One example is sometimes when we go rock climbing in A.P.S I get stuck on the wall because I can’t reach an important rock. When this happens I have to use lots of positive learner attributes and find another way.

This term I have had some challenges too. Like getting to know how the classroom works. This has been slightly difficult because things are very different from year four. Next term my goals are to get a bit faster at doing work and to try to contribute my ideas slightly more and not just keep them in my head. I would also like to try to feel a little more relaxed next term.

What was your favourite subject this term? Why and what did you learn about it?

Amal Unbound Chapter 28 Reflection

Amal demonstrated bravery when she spoke to the two policeman in chapter 28. I think she did this by keeping on speaking to them even when they threatened to hurt her. She also showed courage by trying to persuade them to leave Jawad Sahib’s property even though he treated her poorly. Amal probably felt quite nervous as she spoke. After she talked to them she might of been unsure whether she’d done the right thing.

Amal was being true to herself and after the first sentence she spoke she was sure of her opinion. This made her a good example for all of the other servants. She stood up for herself and all of the other servants. After this scenario Jawad Sahib probably won’t say anything to Amal. He might think differently of her though. I predict that Amal might be treated slightly different from now on.

Do you think that Amal did the right thing? Why?

CBCA Book Week

This term in library we have been listening to some short listed books. In year 4 we focused on the picture book category.

There were six books that were short listed and judged. They were Ten Pound Pom, The Great Rabbit Chase, Mopoke, A Walk In The Bush, Swan Lake and Florette. The book A Walk In The Bush won the award. I think this book won because it had very large and detailed drawings. It looked like lots of different techniques like water colour were used in the illustrations. The book also mentioned lots of native Australian animals and important landmarks.

My personal favourite book was Florette. This book had everything I would ever want in a picture book. Some of the drawings represented what the text said while others showed information that wasn’t mentioned in the text. The illustrator had used a technique that I thought none of the other books had. It also had an interesting story with problem and a solution.

What do you think a fabulous picture should have in it and why?

About Me

I am creative, curious and courageous and I am also very passionate about animals. I have a couple of pets which are: one dog that in my opinion looks a bit like a wild dog crossed with a fox. I also have three hermit crabs who are unusually active. I might be getting another dog in the future. My brother is the best friend in the world to me which is probably because he’s not that much older than I am. I like to read books except most them are animal encyclopaedias though because they are the perfect type book to read if you like to find out facts about animals.

At school I like to learn about new subjects and the personalities of people in my class. I like maths because I find it fascinating that there are so many different ways and strategies to answer one math question. One of my favourite specialist classes at school is art because it lets me be creative and reflect on my self and the day sofare. I also like to hear about the amazing and different things that people have done in the year.

Outside of school I like to play with my brother. Usually we play imaginative games with powers and animals. Sometimes I just talk to my brother and try to do the best I can to make him and me laugh. I also like to swim in my pool and talk to my dog when I might be feeling a bit sad, worried or stressed. Usually I draw and write in my study room where my brother and I have our desks. On weekends sometimes I go surfing or bike riding at my beach house. Other than that everything else I do is a surprise.

Sofare the best things about being year four is that nearly every teacher for every subject is different from year three. Our class room in year four is very different than others not just in the way it looks but in the way it works. Another thing I like about year four is that in term one we’ve been reading a book called fish in a tree that I have been finding quite interesting.
